Certain imported titles and some UK educational publishers do not qualify for discounts.

Advice and Supply

We can advise on books to support the school curriculum including fiction, non-fiction and dyslexia-friendly books. The Alligator’s Mouth is joint owned and managed by an experienced ex-teacher, Tony West. He and the rest of our knowledgeable staff are keen to help teachers find what they need and show them amazing books they won’t find elsewhere. We create and supply lists of books tailored for specific age groups and requirements, emailing these as spreadsheets detailing prices, discounts and availability of titles. Invoices can be printed or emailed. Most books can be ordered into the shop for next day delivery.

Online Library Funding

If the school wishes to ask parents and friends of the school to partly fund library purchasing, we can take donations through a private page on our website. This creates a budget for teachers to use, with our guidance to get the books you need. We can add a voucher on top worth 10% of the sales taken, giving you even more books!

Author visits to schools

We can help organise author visits, from contacting an author to helping you sell books and giving you guidance on how to have a successful, inspirational author event. We can provide books on sale or return for author visits and book fairs by arrangement. We have organised school visits from Chris Riddell, Robin Stevens, A. F. Harrold, Axel Scheffler and many other fantastic authors.

Please arrange with plenty of notice through one of our members of staff. On return of any unsold stock you will receive a voucher to spend in the shop to the value of 10% of books sold.

School visits to The Alligator's Mouth

We love bringing schools to the bookshop. A great way to do this is by arranging group visits to the shop with children picking books for the school library. We have had many such visits and teachers have found it a great way to encourage a love of reading in their students.

Staff visits to schools

Tony and Margaret have given talks at schools to children or staff about their favourite books and how to get reading. Mark has taken his successful Comics Club which he runs at the shop to schools with an assembly talk and/or comics workshops for a variety of ages

Hannah runs extra curricular book clubs in schools, facilitating group discussions about quality titles, provided directly by us..

Please enquire as to fees and arrange with plenty of notice.

Teacher talks and training

There are so many great books that we’d love every teacher to see. Book your staff meeting or part of your training day with us. We offer short talks for teachers, introducing a range of carefully chosen books to enhance libraries and classrooms. St Mary’s University in Twickenham regularly book days for trainee teachers with us and have given great feedback.
