As a long-time fan of Hannah Gold's books - and a major fan of Bear and April's story - it's safe to say I was beyond excited for the publication of The Lone Husky.
In 2021, we met Bear and April in Hannah Gold's debut novel, The Last Bear. I was immediately intrigued by April's story, in which she persistently follows her passions and builds friendships in heart-racing quests across the Arctic. April's resilience and determination continued in 2023, when Hannah published her sequel, Finding Bear. We learnt that adventure is never far behind April and Bear... and their new friends. Now, for a perfect wintery read of 2025, we have a third book to complete their story - Hannah's latest beautiful novel, The Lone Husky.
Complete with exquisite illustrations, as always, by Levi Pinfold, The Lone Husky is striking, moving, unflinching and fearless. Just when you think April has had quite enough adventure for a lifetime, her passion for the Arctic becomes stronger than ever and she launches herself into a new quest. This time, the loveable duo, April and Bear, are joined by a reclusive Husky. When April takes the gentle silver dog under her wing, she nurtures Blaze to trust and love her, but she has no idea that the two of them will end up sledding across one of the most dangerous and challenging mountaintop races.
April's story is captivating and her love for animals is unfailingly profound. We have followed her journey for many years now, and she is no longer the child she was at the start of the series. April has grown up right under our noses and, in The Lone Husky, she makes her own choices, full of integrity and determination. Yet, it's not a true April adventure without the unwavering support of her Arctic family and friends... and a jar of peanut butter.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout the novel, desperate for April and her courageous husky team to make it to the finish line. With some surprises along the way, and some tough decisions to make, April's latest adventure is a spellbinding journey and a must-read for all fans of the Bear series.
Be sure to grab your copy here, and THANK YOU so much to Hannah Gold for visiting us as part of The Lone Husky tour! What a dream come true!
