Northern Soul by Phil Earle

Northern Soul is the new chaotic romance story from Phil Earle, published with Barrington Stoke. The book is short, fun, and packed with punch. It follows the mishaps of a goofy teen who tries to navigate the awkwardness of his first crush.

Marv is a pretty average guy. He doesn’t stand out for better or for worse - he might not be a musical whizz like his best mate Jimmy, but at least he doesn’t wear Crocs as embarrassing as his Dad’s. Even so, when Marv falls head over heels in love with new classmate Carly, he has no idea how to make her notice him.

So it’s lucky (or is it?) that he’s advised by the ghost of Otis Redding. But even then, things don’t exactly go to plan. Marv encounters the perils of his first love, first party, first kiss; some questionable singing and some rather problematic braces…

The story is brilliantly fast-paced and hilariously realistic. You will find yourself laughing and cringing at every page. Marv seems to be a walking disaster - but we’ve all lived through a bit of that, haven’t we?

Young teens - boys and girls alike - will love this funny take on falling in love at school for the first time.
