Chase by Linwood Barclay

This is a thriller, buddy movie of a summer holiday book that will travel nicely alongside the latest Anthony Horowitz in a suitcase to a destination anywhere, as the Marvellettes sang.

First we meet Chipper who is planning to escape from The Institution where he has been imprisoned. Then across the state we meet Jeff, working hard at his aunt's fishing cabins by the lake, nursing his many sorrows. In any other life their paths would not cross, but Chipper is no ordinary sheepdog. He has been upgraded and given higher cognitive abilities that dogs just don't have outside of Disneyland. The Men in Black are hot on the tail of Chipper but Jeff and Emily (whose dad is a policeman) manage to connect with the dog and realise something is afoot. A policeman - that could come in handy...

This series could run and run, and I won't be complaining about that.
