Summer Reading '15: Picturebooks

Grandad's Island by Benji Davies: Before you make this journey, know it does get a little sad but it is incredibly beautiful. Check out Benji Davies other titles as author and/or illustrator: On Sudden Hill, The Storm Whale, Goodnight Already, Jump Aboard the Animal Train. He does the theme of friendship very well and his books are always something special.

Max by Marc Martin: Marc Martin is a new illustration talent from Australia. Max the seagul and Bob the fishmonger are friends who go fishing together. Max also helps out in Bob's Fish & Chip shop down by the harbour. When Bob is forced to close, Max has to follow a trail to find his friend.

What's the Opposite? by Oliver Jeffers: Jeffers does opposites like he did numbers—with weirdness, panache and eloquence. Later in the year, look out for his follow up to The Day the Crayons Quit.

Stay by Alex Latimer: Looking after Buster is no walk in the park. Grandpa has a list of instructions as long as his arm to take care of him while Ben goes on holiday. Could he have left anything out?  Also look out for Latimer's other books Lion vs Rabbit and The Boy Who Cried Ninja.

100 Bones! by Yuval Zommer: Scruff is a dog who loves to dig. When he finds 100 bones the neighbourhood, the other dogs all help out. Could this be the greatest dinosaur discovery of the century? 100 Bones is an eccentric, heart-warming story from the author of The Big Blue Thing on the Hill.

Dinosaur Police by Sarah McIntyre: Renowned palaeontologist Sarah McIntyre gives us a glimpse in to the surprisingly silly prehistoric past, when T-Rex's attacked local pizza factories and the Dinosaur Police were needed to restore order.

Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam by Tracey Corderoy and Steven Lenton: The second Shifty McGifty story stands out as an action packed adventure full of whacky scenarios and clever, imaginative illustration.
